Dr. Polly Kokinos was born in New York City and stayed there until she graduated
medical school . She moved to San Francisco to train at world famous UCSF in
general surgery. During her residency, she returned to New York to train in
molecular carcinogenesis research and published several articles on breast and
thyroid cancer pathogenesis.
During her last year in San Francisco, a nurse from the hospital introduced her
to a high school friend at a Greek Church Festival. She was married to Michael
Kokinos the following year. She spent that year working at the Veteran’s
Administration Hospital in San Francisco as a Clinical Instructor and Attending
Surgeon for UCSF. They then moved to Saint Louis to pursue a nationally
acclaimed vascular fellowship at Washington University.
Dr. Kokinos was recruited back to San Jose to work as the sole vascular surgeon
for a large medical group. After the birth of her daughters she went into
private practice and completed further training in endovascular treatments of
arterial and venous disease, including the use of stents grafts for
aneurysms, balloons and stents for arterial blockages, and endovenous
radiofrequency to treat superficial venous disease. Dr. Kokinos joined the staff
at Kaiser Santa Clara in 2000 as an attending vascular surgeon and Clinical
Instructor at Stanford University. She is involved in teaching surgical
residents from Stanford both at conferences and in the operating room. She has
been vital in the development of the vascular surgery division there as one of
Kaiser’s most highly regarded in Northern California.
Dr. Kokinos is dedicated to excellence in the care of patients with arterial and
venous problems. She is honored by the opportunity to help you walk or stand
without pain, avoid the devastation of a stroke, remove the fear of bleeding
from an aneurysm, or helping heal an open wound. Please feel free to address
with her any issues that may be of concern to you.
