VNUS Closure® also known as endovenous radiofrequency ablation or occlusion, is a treatment for venous reflux disease for patients with symptomatic varicose veins. Performed on an outpatient basis in the physician’s office under local anesthesia and ultrasound guidance, the physician positions a VNUS ClosureFAST™ catheter into the disease vein through a small opening in the skin.

The tiny catheter powered by controlled radio-frequency (RF) energy delivers heat to the vein wall causing the vein to shrink and seal closed. Once the vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins. Following the procedure, a simple bandage is placed over the insertion site and the leg is wrapped for additional compression. You are encouraged to walk and most patients resume normal activities within a day. You are asked to refrain from extended standing and strenuous activities for about a week. Recovery is usually rapid and mild. Compression hose are worn post-operatively for three weeks. *Covered by most insurance providers.
